Prescap – the local community arts charity behind Preston FM – has been awarded £180,000 funding by v, the youth volunteering charity, to get young people positively involved in the community over the next three years.

The project is one of 158 across the country that will be funded by v as part of vinvolved, a new national youth volunteering programme backed by £75 million funding, which aims to inspire half a million more young people to volunteer in England.

Over the next three years, more than 75,000 new volunteering opportunities will be on offer through 158 innovative vinvolved projects across the country.

Recommendation Seven of the Russell Commission Report called for “a step change in the number of young people volunteering and the diversity of volunteers. This [would] require a significant expansion in the number of available opportunities with effective targeting to ensure that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to volunteer”.

vinvolved projects are being run by large, medium and small organisations and will generate a wide range of short-term, part-time and full-time volunteering opportunities for 16-25s.
