Former President of France Valery Giscard d'Estaing has written a book titled the Princess and the President, in which a French president has an affair with a British princess - who bears a striking resemblance to Lady Diana. Excerots of the book were published in Le Figaro on Monday.

The book is published in October, but is already causing speculations about the former president's relationship with the late princess of Wales, and if the two had a romance. The Princess and the President follows protagonist Jacques-Henri Lambertye and his lover, princess Patricia of Cardiff, Wales.

Valery Giscard d'Estaing was president of France from 1974 to 1981. He is married to his cousin, Anne-Aymone Sauvage de Brantes.

Diana died in a car crash in central Paris in 1997 along with her boyfriend, Dodi al Fayed. Media reports said Giscard and his wife were the first people to send flowers to the hospital where her body was taken.
