Protestors Claim Religulous Attacks Religion

Bill Maher is coming out with a new documentary that takes a look religion from an atheist's perspective. It's looks like 'God Delusion: The Movie'–with more humour. The trailer sold me a long time ago and I’m looking forward to screening it at the Vancouver International Film Festival.
Now, it did trigger some protests at the Toronto Film Festival:
I have to wonder why people bother protesting such an obviously controversial film, they're just promoting an event. Of course, criticism wasn't limited to the festival, it did spread to the web:
The film hits mainstream theatres October 3rd.
Are you going to see it?
Now, it did trigger some protests at the Toronto Film Festival:
A small group of protesters paraded outside the world premiere of "Religulous,"… Waving placards with the slogans "Pray For Bill," "Don't Mock My Religion" and "Hate + Fear + Religulous," the dozen or so protesters marched in a small circle near -- but at a safe remove from -- the front doors of the auditorium both before and after the screening.
I have to wonder why people bother protesting such an obviously controversial film, they're just promoting an event. Of course, criticism wasn't limited to the festival, it did spread to the web:
The logical fallacies of this movie certainly don't end with this list, but I feel my blood pressure rising , so I think I should save my other comments for the coming weeks as Bill Maher will, no doubt, continue to promote his film as a call for religion in all shapes and sizes to commit a quick, painless death so intelligent civilization can flourish
The film hits mainstream theatres October 3rd.
When asked if their movie… was intentionally being timed to come out just before the presidential election, [director Larry] Charles noted dryly, "It's a miracle."
Are you going to see it?

The film was great. Very well done. The protest was pretty lame.

Bill Maher brought clips of Religulous to last year's Toronto International Film Festival (2007) and discussed the making of the film. Base on the excerpts shown I will definitely go see it, as they were very funny.

I'm very keen on seeing this movie if and when it comes to Vancouver, BC and am trying to get information on where it will be playing.

Bill Maher, you're an gaping asshole. Maybe you'll become a believer in the man you punched and mocked in your film -- maybe you'll believe when you are penniless and broken, lying in the gutter for your assaults on our Lord. Yours is a life of sadness, Bill. I have a feeling you will rue the day you made this film. You will be like others before you, because every knee shall bend.
Your film is a cry for help, really. It is your pitiful quest for help. From nothing comes nothing, Bill. You were created, and the Lord knew you before you were born. Your life was a gift. It isn't the stuff of pixie dust because you can't comprehend it. Be grateful. If a father who created you came to your level and talked with you and your friends, you would cherish him. No less our Father came to you in Jesus. He is cherished. Get to know him.

Referring to "furtive" and his comment above, isn't it great how Christians love their enemies?
In the meantime, "furtive", if the Lord wants to talk to Bill Maher, tell Him to get in touch with him directly. As an intermediary, you're not very good.

I would like to chime in.
I would love to speak to Bill Maher, even if for a few minutes. I think it would be a very enlightening conversation for both of us.
The only thing that really disappointed me in this movie, aside from a few uncomfortable moments of extreme mockery (only a few, some seemed well deserved, others a tad too harsh, but not often) was the lack of the "open mind" faith person.
Yes, he did give a voice to those that are religious but do not cling to ridiculous errors and fantasies in religion...I am speaking of those that feel that neither science or religion has it right...
In my opinion science has far more proof, but some conclusions (hypothesis of course) are just as ridiculous as some religious items. The big bang theory comes to mind, specifically the idea that before the big bang nothing existed except the tiny speck of super dense material...not even time existed. I find this almost laughable.
Also that quarks are the smallest particles. In my day it was protons and the like...now its quarks. Everything has to be made of something, isnt it more plausible that there is no such thing as too small or too big?
Quite a bit of our science is polluted by our own limited existence. What we call vast distance is only vast to us because we live for less than 100 years.
I have met quite a few people that discard garbage from things like the bible and other texts, but still have a basis in some sort of faith. The most common is his mantra...that we do not know. Something happened to start up life, even science doesnt know what.
I have always believed that life itself is god. Perhaps thats a bit over the top...we are just walking globs of dead material animated by life. When that life leaves us we go back to what we were and fill up something else. It is my believe that life wants to happen and will happen if given the chance.
I have no proof. Just a gut sense feeling. But i will say this...I think some people need to believe in something. Others need a "moral" compass. Should we discard that which gives people comfort because it may very well be 90 percent lies? He mentions that great cost...but what is the cost of a people without hope?
Yes..a world of logic, free from religion would be a great world IMO. One can respect life without a rule book telling you how...you already know how. One can accept that certain things are wrong, even if you have to do them. One can accept that we need each other....one can even accept that we are meaningless and still feel special.
But can we do that now? Are we not still children? Would the removal of religion stop people from murdering each other in the name of something? Seems to me this has happened throughout our history despite the belief in god...the examples surround us.
Im not sure that eradicating all faith, at least right now, is the answer. The better answer, IMO, would be instead to embrace truth, discard falsehood, and learn to embrace each other eventually...
...as long as we remain as children we may need a father after all.

...one comment I forgot to add. The Quran contains many contradictions, just like other religious texts. In some ayats it says Jews should be punished, in others embraced as gods "chosen" people who will receive a just reward in heaven. Other ayats praise Jews and Christians as being people that will be judged under their prospective prophets...in other words, at least to me, it is saying that Quranic law only applies to those that subscribe to it.
Some ayats say to resist those that persecute you with a lesser force...for instance protest to hinderance, anger to stones, stones to blades, blades to war machines, etc. Always a lesser response. As a Muslim you are supposed to endure.
Muslims are supposed to respect and follow ALL prophets, not just those mentioned in the Torah, Bible or Quran. One one hand it tells you to reject falsehood and those that do not believe (though it does not define what an non-believer is...perhaps someone that does not embrace life?) and on another it tells to embrace all and ALL will receive reward in heaven.
As usual, just like in all religions, Khalīfahs will interpret and even incorrectly translate original text to fit an agenda.
Most of you know what is false and what is not. When someone questions your faith and that angers you, it usually means what you are defending is something you know is false IMO.
Most religions are blamed for suffering of one type or another, and very few major religions have clean hands...Christians murder Muslims, Muslims murder Jews, Jews murder Christians...it goes on and on.
Religion is mostly an excuse for people that wish to do bad things and have no way to justify it.

All you religious people, you good followers of Jesus, and of all the other Gods in all the other religions around the world, I have news for you...If there is a 1 God and a heaven and hell none of you are going to be there...The slaughter of billions of people killed in the name of some God doesn't make you right or wrong..It makes you weak...Religion has been the cause of more deaths than any plague, natural disaster, or all wars combined (not associated with religion) so if there is a God, he's playing with our minds and enjoys seeing people killed in his name...
Facts are facts..read your history and not what someone writes in a "holy" book...
