Is Pushing Daisies, Heroes, and Chuck the next to be cancelled?

Tick, tick, tick, sounds like something out of 60 minutes, but in reality it’s what could be happening to three of the best shows of the 2007 season. Pushing Daisies, Heroes, and Chuck could all be heading to cancellation heaven if the fans of each show don’t respond and take it seriously. Just like fan driven shows like Jericho, Moonlight, Disney’s Kim Possible and Disney’s American Dragon all got the axe by ruthless and uncaring network executives whose bottom line interest isn’t that of the fans who watched these shows with devotion and loyalty. No these network executives have always had their own agenda and won’t listen to the out pouring cries of the fans that loved these shows. For if they did, then corporations like Disney would be listening to the millions of Kim Possible fans everywhere who’ve been asking, literally begging Disney to renew Kim Possible for a Season Five and same with the American Dragon, Jake Long fans who’ve been doing the same thing as the Kim Possible fans. The American Dragon fans have been asking and begging Disney as well to get a Season Three of American Dragon, Jake Long to no avail. Unfortunately right now Disney isn’t listening to its loyal core fan of Kim Possible and American Dragon fans. Instead Disney’s focus is now more on live action and all the money their making from Hanna Montana, Camp Rock, and Disney’s High School Musical and there in no mood to be listening to the plight of the Kim Possible and American Dragon fans.

Disney isn’t alone in this practice, CBS is no better. The continuous out cries of support to bring back Jericho and Moonlight by the fans of both shows have completely fallen on deaf ears at CBS. These CBS network executives have made their decision that these two shows need to be cancelled and that’s that. No more talk, its final the CBS executives have spoken and the deed is done. Who cares what the Jericho and Moonlight fans want, they’ll get over it and watch whatever CBS executives decide they should watch.

This brings us back to Pushing Daisies, Heroes, and Chuck? None of these three shows have been cancelled, yet, and I use the word yet. But it’s very likely it could happen and they could all suffer the same fate as Jericho, Moonlight, Kim Possible and American Dragon unless of course the fans of these show realize that the rating means nothing, absolutely positively nothing. The ratings aren’t rated by you and me, it’s rated by those who belong to the AC Nielsen family and unless your part of that exclusive group of people whether your watching Pushing Daisies, Heroes, or Chuck on a regular basis means nothing, cause your not counted.

I know for sure that I’m not being counted even though I watch all three of these shows on a regular basis. But like so many of you out there, I’m not part of the exclusive club of the AC Nielsen people so whether I’m watching these shows or not won’t matter, even if I write and tell these network executives that I’m watching these shows on a regular basis it doesn’t seem to matter. As I’m still writing to Disney about Kim Possible and American Dragon, and I’m writing to CBS about Jericho and Moonlight, though I know my actions fall completely on deaf ears.

This brings us to the bottom-line. What can I do about it? Believe me your not helpless, you’re only helpless if you believe you are or if you choose to look the other way and let this practice continue on, like it has for decades now. You have the power to make a difference by lobbying these network and studio executives. Tell them that this is your show, it’s what you want to watch and you’re willing to support it and you don’t want it to be cancelled. It’s time all these television viewers everywhere stopped being the networks puppets. We live in a land of democracy, not communism. We should have the right to watch what we want for as long as we want to watch it for, and not be told by some network executive that’s it’s time to move on and watch something else just because they told you so.

Jericho was actually brought back on the air for a new season and was cancelled due to lower than expected ratings.  Out of sight, out of mind, i see.

We live in a land of democracy, not communism. We should have the right to watch what we want for as long as we want to watch it for, and not be told by some network executive that’s it’s time to move on and watch something else just because they told you so.

I don't think you know what either of these words means.

We live in a society with a [somewhat] free market, and they're producing a product. Like Mountain Dew. The product, for them, is a means to sell advertising.

If the product isn't selling, they pull it. It's that simple. They own the networks, and they pay to make, promote, and broadcast the shows.

And if they don't want to do it anymore, that's their call.

I watch all three of these shows as well, although I'd argue that only one of them (Pushing Daisies) is among the best of TV right now. And you always knew a quirkily awesome show like that was doomed. Get over yourself and enjoy it while it lasts.

Haven't you learned to spot these shows in advance yet? I presume you're still holding out hope for Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" on Fox. I'll probably just wait for the six-episode "Complete Series" DVD that'll be out around February for that.

It's comments like yours that the networks love to hear, congratulation for making their case even stronger. It's because of negative comments like these that networks do what they want and are not at liberty to even listen to the fans. The networks don't make us, we make the networks. Imagine if we all just stopped watching what they produce, then what would happen? You think they'd still be so high and mighty like they are now? And the time will come when the Internet will replace these so called networks freeing up programming and allowing fans to control what they want to see, instead of some suits in an office making decisions for everyone out there.

Already there's a growing list of disgruntled fans like myself out there who are tired of the way networks are running amok and doing whatever they want without listening to their viewers which in general are their consumers.

If retail operated the way the networks do, retail stores would be out of business. As retailers have to listen to their customers and have to do what their customers want. Well it's time the networks took a page out of the retail sector and realized that their viewers are also their consumers and when consumers ask for something to be brought back then it's time they listened and went ahead and did it. And not continued to play Gods of the media because this won't last forever and they all know it.

And yes Jericho was renewed, the fans spirits were then crushed by CBS cancelling Jericho again blaming it on low ratings, but what ratings are we talking about here? Seeing millions of fans were watching Jericho, oh yeah I forgot those millions weren't AC Nielsen viewers so those millions didn't count at all.

I love Pushing Daisies and I am very sad it has been cancelled, but it is only indicative of a larger problem with network TV. Since TV comprises so large a part of our entertainment time, it should somewhat reflect the audience. According to the networks, America is a bunch of low-IQ voyeurs happy to watch the dance stylings of some C-list ex-celebrities. You know, we're not all idiots. Some of us like well-written inventive television, which is why we generally don't watch network TV. SO, even though I haven't watched ABC in years, I took a chance and got totally enchanted by Pushing Daisies. Ignoring the fact that it's the only decent show on their whole network, ABC then proceeded to cancel it over the protests of the viewers. Come on. One commercial from Lost would pay for this show. The networks don't listen and I believe they hold the audience in contempt. How else do you explain Two and a Half Men? Never again will I watch networks - it's the Discovery Channel for me from now on.

 a ernest,

You got it so right. The networks and studios all think and feel that we're just low-IQ puppets for them to pull our strings anyway they like. Pushing Daisies was and still is one of the best shows on network television with excellent writing, and acting and of course brilliant scenery and set design. But of course shows worthy of being on television get cancelled, case in point with Disney Channel and Kim Possible and American Dragon, Jake Long. Too of the best animated series on Disney Channel with excellent writing and awesome characters. But no this show was too good to be on television so it had to be cancelled. Meanwhile Disney Channel kept Hanna Montana and even introduced Phineas and Ferb and the Replacements to replace Kim Possible and American Dragon and Disney still hasn't listened to the outraged and devoted fans of both Kim Possible and American Dragon.

Same goes with CBS and Moonlight and Jericho. It's like these networks and studios think they can get away with anything and totally ignore the fan base and they can keep doing this until the fans out there all unite and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Only then will any of this change, until then Discovery Channel and TLC sounds good too me.
