A Racial Incident in a Local WalMart: What Would You Have Done?

    What would you have done, if this happened to you?
     I walked into Walmart with my wife and daughter, just as I have done thousands of times. Just as you have done the same.
     But this time was not the same. It was one minute I will remember forever. Because as I came in and passed the greeter, there were two tall men in their twenties standing there, one listening on his cell phone. 
    They were young and in the prime of their life. I am not.
     I was holding my little twelve year old girl's hand when all of a sudden the one with the cell phone started screaming out into the phone, saying, "That F******* N*****, I''m going to kill that S** of a B**** G** D*** N*****!"
     I stopped in my tracks and turned to him and said, "Sir! Sir, there are children here!"
     He turned and looked me in the eyes, and then turned to walk away, as I did. He was surprised anyone had stood up to him. And I was just as surprised that I had.
     But then as he walked away he said into the phone something loud about a "G** D*** Cracker," and I turned back to him. But he and his friend kept walking on out the door.
     Time elapsed: less than one minute. Adrenalin flowing: all of it.
     When it came time to leave, I told my wife to wait inside while I went to get the car, in case the two were waiting for me. They weren't.
     We drove off, and I am left forever with the question, did I do the right thing?
     And leaving you with these two questions: What would you have done had you been there instead of me. And what should you have done?
     And in the end I am left with a very sinking feeling: To some people, I am just a cracker.
     But I am a cracker who still believes in equal rights and equal treatment... for everyone. Regardless of race, creed, color, or cell phone.
