Endhiran Tamil For Robot Most Expensive Indian Film Every Made Opens October 1st. (Review, video trailer)
Endhiran (Robot) is being billed as the most expensive Indian film ever made with a price tag of 175 crore that is about 45 to 50 million dollars - not much by Hollywood standards but by Bollywood standards the costs special effects laiden Edhiran (Robot) is unheard of.
Endhiran (Robot) comes courtesy of one of the biggest stars from South India, Rajnikant. Robot also starts Aishwarya Rai Bachchan former Miss Universe.
A trade insider said: ‘‘ Robot is the first film with such a huge production cost. This is not an acquisition figure like in the case of Kites or Raavan but the actual landing cost, including the remuneration of the two lead actors.’’ Director S Shankar justified the budget, saying: ‘‘ It’s a complete entertainer with the best special effects seen so far on the Indian screen. We realise that we have made the costliest Indian film but when it’s and , it is justified.’’
For the uninitiated, Rajnikant is a super star in the state of Tamil Nadu.
For non-Rajnikanth fans, it's a sure-fire way to understand the mystique and magical allure of Rajni saar, a hero who enjoys a demi-god status in several parts of India. Why? Because there are almost a hundred Rajnikanths eating up helicopters, smashing cars, battering planet earth and creating havoc, like never before. If you thought Terminator, Matrix, Godzilla was fun, then we guarantee you'll fall off your chair with glee as our desi T2-meets-Blade Runner-meets Neo-meets-Godzilla sets the screen on fire in a crazy, vengeance bid. Spoofy, yes. But super fun too.
So think Kollywood Song and Dance Sci-FI. No that is not a typo. Bollywood refers to the movies made in Mumbai (which was called Bombay). Tollywood are Telugu films shot in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Kollywood are films shot in the Tamil city of Chennai. The "K" refers to the neighborhood, Kodambakkam, the districts of Chennai where many of the Tamil film studios are based.
Another superstar from Chennai, A.R. Rahman the Oscar winner for music in Slumdog Millionaire did the musical score for Endhiran (Robot).
