It's not just athletes who need a little 'performance enhancement'. Ah steroids, for when Auto-Tune just isn't enough.
A number of entertainers were named in connection with an Albany-based steroid investigation, but they are not part of an ongoing criminal probe, according to a published report. The Times Union of Albany cited unidentified law enforcement officials in reporting Sunday that R&B music star Mary J. Blige, rap musicians 50 Cent, Timbaland and Wyclef Jean, and award-winning author and producer Tyler Perry may have received or used performance-enhancing drugs.
Law enforcement officials have said evidence does not indicate that the celebrities broke the law, but that investigators are focusing on doctors, pharmacists and clinics that provide the drugs.
The Albany Times-Union revealed a list of major hip-hop artists and celebrities whose names (or creative pseudonyms) appeared on orders for steroid shipments, as part of the Albany steroids investigation. For the juicy (ha!) details, scroll down. To read more from the Times Union, click here.
Mary J. Blige
The Times Union reports that the R&B superstar received several packages of a human growth hormone and anabolic steroids. More interestingly, some of the orders were addressed to "Marlo Stanfield" -- the drug lord from HBO's revered series, "The Wire." The orders were processed from August 2005 to January 2007.
50 Cent
Packages addressed to a "Michael Jordan" arrived at both his Farmington, Conn. and Los Angeles homes in July 2006. A separate shipment of steroids for the rapper were sent to a Long Island-based chiropractor.
Timbaland
Packages of human growth hormone and anabolic steroids were documented in Timbaland's name from October 2005 to September 2006. And, like, 50 Cent, additional shipments were delivered to a Long Island-based chiropractor.
Wyclef Jean
Jean's orders -- of human growth hormone and Oxandrolone -- were channeled directly to, once again, a Long Island-based chiropractor in 2005.
Tyler Perry
Anabolic steroids and human growth hormone were sent, in Perry's name, to his business address in Atlanta, from 2005-2006.
