Reality TV Overkill--I Love You Bret Michaels, Don't Leave Me!
I had the unfortunate experience of being a victim of "channel surfing". As I got comfortable and started flipping, I witnessed something hideous. It was the new season of "Bret Michaels Rock of Love" on VH1. Apparently it was the opener for season three and I happened to catch the ending where he picks the groupies he likes and discards the rest with a kick to their curvy asses with his vintage 80's boot.
Lucky for me, I caught it during the pivotal moment. Who was staying and who was going?
What a nail biter this was!
There were five women left and only one "groupie pass" left to give out. Note: the girls must have this "groupie pass" in order to continue their "tour with Bret on the rock of love".
Then it happened. I actually witnessed grown women CRYING over whether or not they would be chosen by this 40-something has-been balding rocker who buys stock in hair extensions and bandannas to cover his empty melon.
Imagine! Grown women crying over a man they've only known for a day and maybe only exchanged a few words with?
I don't know if it was for entertainment purposes, but by the looks of some of those women, they are either "stalkers"; wanna-be reality stars; or in the need of serious self-esteem therapy.
It was almost embarrassing to be a woman at that moment where all sensibility flew off and out of the TV.
Maybe Tyra Banks can do a "feminist" show about it. Topic: Transform your self esteem AND get a make over!

It's a big, long stretch for me to imagine many women vying to be this guy's groupie...what a show.
Makes you wonder how bad reality TV is actually going to get. Have you ever seen the Desperate Housewives of Orange County? It's embarrassingly awful.

GOD NO...I try to avoid all reality TV at any cost. However, it's making Hollywood big bucks due to the low production value costs and not having to pay actor salaries. Smart move from those bloodsuckers who charge $12 to see a freakin' movie.
However, I admit...I did watch this "wife swapping" type show recently that was hysterical.
General America Public = lots of idiots with nothing to do that are entertained very easily.

Oh...I also got sucked into "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" a few times.
AWFUL.

Something weird and strange about reality TV, I actually read an amazing journal article about it last year and I remember the author stating there were something like three attributes of the reality show participant and I remember one was gratitude for being there...when you stand back and look at this stuff it is a larger commentary on the society we live in. I have a morbid interest in these shows, I can't explain it. It's like some awful human experiment I can't look away from!

I stumbled across the show while channel surfing as well. The entire episode made me want to cry. One girl did a test tube shot out of another girl's vagina, two girls got into a physical fight, the rest of them just shouted and threw drinks at each other and one girl used her chance to talk to Bret to tell him that she would agree to have a threesome with him if that's what he wanted.
I'm doing a short write up about the episode for my next ICB post. Seriously, I know reality TV is supposed to be a trashy, but this show is just horrendous. These women should not be allowed to be on TV, even to laugh at.

Reality TV like this is really a sad commentary on the direction of our country. Even Bret Michaels himself said in an interview in so many words that he can't believe that he gets paid to bang random skanks on national TV for money. I guess this is entertainment?
