Reality TV: What Is Coming On This Fall? Primetime Line-Up
Fall is upon us, and that means more reality TV shows are coming back to consume our leisure time. So here is a list of the shows that are here to turn you into an emotional couch potato:
1. The Biggest Loser – this ever so popular NBC reality show comes back Tuesday, September 15 at 8 PM EST. The show will now center on eleven couples trying to lose weight and claim the coveted $250,000. The show will still be hosted by Alison Sweeney, and professional trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper will once again be the motivational force for the contestants. The producers of the show seem to be going beyond ratings, and have plans to study obesity trends in different American cities eventually. The show preview can be viewed here.
2. America's Next Top Model - the ominous Cycle 13 of the show is to begin Wednesday, September 9 at 8 PM EST on the CW network. Fourteen girls aging from 18 to 23 will compete for the management and representation by Wilhelmina Models, a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics and a cover and six-page spread within Seventeen magazine.Tyra Banks will be hosting and judging once again with the help from J. 3. Project Runway Season 6 - PREMIERS TODAY at 10 PM EST on Lifetime network! Sixteen contestants will put on their designing caps starting today August 20. The deal is the same: the winner gets an editorial feature in an issue of Elle magazine, a cash prize of $100,000 to start their own line, and an an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Paris. For the first time in its history the show was taped in Los Angeles. Returning host and judges are Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Rumor has it that Nicole Kidman will make a guest star appearance on the show. To see the official season 6 trailer, go here.
4. Dancing With The Stars - the ABC show enters its 9th season and will premier on Monday September 21, 8/7c. The cast was announced just this past Monday, with a few surprises -- such as Iron Chef America's Marc Dacascos, Kelly Osbourne, singer and daughter of Ozzy Osbourne, and light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. The 16-member cast is also the largest one in the history of the show.
5. Survivor - the 19th season of the CBS show will be staged in Samoa. The show premiers Thursday, September 17 at 8 PM/ET. Twenty contestants are lined up to starve and engage in some island democracy for 39 days. The twentieth season of Survivor next year will see the original survivor Richard Hatch return.
6. Big Brother - season 11 is already in progress on the CBS network. The show premiered on July 9. The show airs three times a week: Sundays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), and Thursdays at 8 p.m (live ET/delayed PT). Julie Chen is hosting again. This season's live internet feeds have been generating some controversy, as some show participants have made inappropriate remarks on air.
7. Hell's Kitchen - season 6 is in progress, having premiered on July 21, 2009. The show airs Tuesday nights. The spin this year is that the contestants will compete for the title of head chef at Araxi Restaurant, in Whistler, BC, the second capital of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

--VH1's Megan Wants a Millionaire -- aired first on August 2, but was suspended due to the fact that the show contestant Ryan Alexander Jenkins is being sought by police for questioning in connection to the murder of swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore.

Oh, goody. So called reality TV. Thank goodness that, at least for the time being, Jon and Kate Plus 8 is off the air! Well, except for re-runs. Are we that bored as a culture, that these are the television programs are the ones that take up our time? (The dance shows and talent shows are understandable - variety programs were very popular in years gone by.) And people wonder how we wind up with Palin and George Bush.
