REBECCA SEDWICK DESERVED SAME PROTECTION AS ADULTS FROM ASSAULT
If an adult is harrassed, stalked or assaulted, they can file a police report. The prepretrator can face harsh consequences including prison time. As an adult if you are assaulted by a gang of people, no one tells you that you need to fight them or stop being a punk. Corporations do not tolerate complaints of someone creating a hostile work environment for their fellow empoyee; the consequences could be loss of job for those who do so. But we send children into these same conditions everyday and expect them to deal with it, mentally and or physically. There should be harsher consequences for bullying. The days of "children will bechildren" is over.
Rebecca's mother should not had to take her out of school and home school her for her safety. Those that were creating the hostile school environment should have been expelled and never allowed back if the bullying continued via social networks. Assault charges should have been pressed aganist them after the first fight. But instead the victim had to leave the school for her own protection. The school and teachers are responsible as well for turning a blind eye to bullying. Too often school administrators judge the child being bullied as weak but they are the first to run or call the police if a threat is made aganist their person. Children are not super heroes that should have to fight a bigger child or agang of children. They hurt just like we do. A peaceful environment should be guaranteed every child in school.
There has to be harsher punishment for bullying, arrest, detention, home confinement, state placement and so on but no way should they have still been in school when this child jumped.
A lot of times the bully have problems at home and needs help also, this is why they act out and this should be investigated. Also in the news a convicted killer that excaped prison this week was returned to finish his life sentence. He said that the person he killed bullied him. A lot of school shooting was the results of a child being bullied. If more would have done to stop bullying, less young people would have to do what they felt they had to do to protect themselves like taking a life, sometimes the life is their very own.
