Republic, who have been pushing for a democratic and fairer alternative to the Monarchy, has set a date of 2nd June 2009 to be 'Republic Day' coinciding with the unelected Queen's Coronation.

The day of action will include:

- Writing to the local paper and MP

- changing the status on Facebook to "is supporting Republic Day: June 2nd.

- telling family and friends

- organising activities

The lobby group, have also called for the Crown to be the centre of renewed debate over constitutional reform.

No photo has been uploaded to this story as recently two Spanish tourists were arrested for taking photos of Buckingham Palace, one of several homes the Queen lives at.

In the news today, many of her subjects are unable to get onto the property ladder due to the high prices and redundancies due to the recession. For them, a job is not for life.

Republic faces opposition from traditionalists.
