REVIEW: Inception
From director Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) comes this summer's cerebral blockbuster.
Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Cobb, a man with the technology to enter a person's dream and steal their secrets, or in some cases, plant ideas. The equipment was created by the military as a way to train soldiers. When you're dreaming you don't realize it. Everything feels real. So, a soldier can experience hell and then simply wake up. In the wrong hands this technology can be used to enter someone's mind and take advantage of it. However, it isn't easy and that's why Cobb needs a team to pull it off. First he needs an Architect, someone who can construct the setting of the dream. That's where Ariadne (Ellen Page) comes in. Then he needs a person who can research the individual. Before you explore someone's mind you need to know who they are and what you're getting yourself into. Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) steps up to the plate. When inside the mind the subconscious can be aware when something isn't right. That's why there needs to be a Forger, a person who can trick the subject into trusting them. Eames (Tom Hardy) is the man for the job. Now, of course, none of this would be possible without a Chemist who can formulate the drugs needed to enter a person's dream. Yusuf (Dileep Rao) is the one to hire.
Reading that you may think that it's the plot, but it's just the backstory.
The plot centers on Cobb who is accused for the murder of his wife (Marion Cotillard) and is living as a fugitive outside the United States. One day, Saito (Ken Watanabe), a Japanese business man, offers Cobb the freedom he needs if he'll corrupt the mind of a competitor named Robert Fischer, Jr. (Cillian Murphy). The problem is that once he enter's Fischer's dream he discovers that Fischer has trained his mind to prevent an attack. Now, Cobb and his team have to complete this task while being chased by goons created to stop them.
Inception, as you can tell, is a brain teaser. This isn't your typical summer blockbuster. It's a smart, complex, and inventive thriller. Adding to that is a brilliant cast and a big scope that makes this film worth watching on the big screen. Inception is a must-see!
