Salt is being advertised as a spy thriller with the big question being whether or not the main character is a double agent working for Russia. In reality, it's just an action movie with some twists here and there.

Angelina Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy. And, well, she is. Don't worry, I did not just spoil the film. They reveal this information like 10 minutes into the movie and the rest of the running time is spent on Salt being chased by the agency. The real spoilers revolve on her mission as a Russian sleeper agent. She's part of a team who have been trained since childhood to live as American citizens and attack the country at the right moment.

It's an interesting plot and fun to watch unfold, but at its core, this is just an action flick. Thankfully it was made by a talented crew with a solid track record. Phillip Noyce, who helmed the two Jack Ryan films starring Harrison Ford, is the director. Kurt Wimmer, whose claim to fame is Equilibrium, wrote the screenplay. And, Stuart Baird (Lethal Weapon, Casino Royale) is the editor. These guys combined skills resulted in a very entertaining summer movie. The action scenes are a bit over-the-top at times, but during this time of the year that's what audiences tend to expect. So, if you can, check out the film. Also, check out James Newton Howard's score. It's great.
