REVIEW: Trick 'r Treat
Paranormal Activity is the most buzzed about horror movie in theaters at the moment. The most talked about on DVD is Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat. Originally set for release on October 5, 2007 it was instead released straight to DVD last week. The studio, WB, apparently didn't think it was good enough for theatrical release. Their lose, I guess.
It's an anthology flick featuring four-related stories. One is of a school principal (Dyaln Baker) who poison's children with candy. Another is of a 22-year-old virgin (Anna Paquin) out to change that during a party. The third is of vicious school children playing a cruel prank on a mentally disabled girl. The last is of a former school bus driver (Brian Cox) being haunted by demons of his past.
Director Michael Dougherty was the co-screenwriter of X2: X-Men United and Superman Returns. Those movies director, Bryan Singer, served as producer. Dougherty is talented and managed to pull of an old-fashioned horror movie that relies on mood, tone, and the supernatural. So, if you want to stay home and save some cash instead of going to see Paranormal Activity then this is highly recommended.
