It is a real fact that rich Muslim men have four wives at the same time as their religion allows. But is it morally and socially acceptable, although moral values sometimes agree with religious beliefs and values?
A rich man may economically satisfy all the four wives. But never can he satisfy the social needs of the four wives equally because of the natural and social differences between the four wives. One of the wives may be socially more attractive treating him more than the other. She may also be naturally beauty, sexually fit, etc. Thus, the man can never satisfy the four wives equally without any bias and that is morally as well as socially unacceptable for the wives.
The initial premise, though I don’t know more on this issue, is said to be that females were over males during the time Prophet Mohammed wrote Quran. Besides, Prophet Mohammed had the desire of increasing the Muslim population. Therefore, this provision in Quran might be acceptable that time. But now, that male-female matching problem is not prevalent. Would it be fair to have four wives on the basis of religion, unless the wives themselves like it?

In the first place it is a sweeping generalization that rich Muslim men have four wives; poor Muslims one.Keeping four wives,or more than one,is morally incorrect. That is my personal opinion. But issue must be looked at from one more angle and that is polygamous nature of man.Visitors, some time too frequent,to brothels are middle-aged men with one wife,or more than one. What does it suggest?Man can never be content with one women,be she his wife or concubine. We maintain double standards, morality included .Man wants to have relationship with as much women as he can.Prostitution is product of polygyny.
In nutshell, restrictiing one man's relationship with one woman as is absurd as having more than one wife.Could some one speaking from highest pedestal of morality suggest way out?

We are shouting loud in favor of gender equality. If men (Muslim men) are allowed to have four wives, then why not Muslim women four husbands?

We have call girls, concubines. Why don't we allow call boys, male prostitutes to bring about gender equality we shout about from our roof tops.In some parts of North India polyndary is still practiced. An example of gender equality.

I have just finished studying Islam, in college as part of the course material and have found it to be very fascinating, although I shall continue to be a non declared person because it is a personal choice, I wonder what it would be like to have four wifes, then I quickly summize that one is to many at times, can you imagine getting yelled at 4 times in one day for not doing the dishes ( western culture) or mowing the lawn, I am all set with that program,
but four girlfriends would be very nice

@Jerry04330."but four girlfriends would be very nice",definetly.Would you allow each of your girlfriend to have three more boyfriends for the sake of gender equality?
