Kevin Eubanks Leaving 'The Tonight Show'

It will seem strange to watch Jay Leno's Tonight Show and not see Kevin Eubanks sitting to the side of the stage with his band, being the butt of some of Leno's jokes and and telling stories of his own. However, it has been confirmed that Kevin Eubanks will be leaving the Tonight Show in May and that he will be moving on to other ventures in his life.

It has now been confirmed that American Idol musical director Rickey Minor will be replacing Kevin Eubanks on the show.

NBC has officially confirmed TMZ's story ... Minor will debut on "The Tonight Show" on June 7.

Who is Rickey Minor?

Rickey Minor has been a musical director for American Idol for 47 episodes, as well was Don't Forget the Lyrics, The Next Great American Band, America's Got Talent, the Super Bowl, the 50th Annual Grammy Awards and the 36th Annual People's Choice Awards.

He has also worked as a musical director for Christina Augilera, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles and Beyonce.

He has also composed a number of his own songs for television, such as for the 40th NAACP Image Awards, the 50th Annual Awards, the 5th Annual TV Land Awards, the 3rd Annual TV Land Awards and he has composed for the soundtrack Poseidon.

He has a lot of experience with directing these kinds of shows, but being Jay Leno's right hand man is going to be a whole new challenge. Rickey Minor will have to be quick on his feet and sharp and be ready to be teased by Jay. Let's hope he is up to the challenge.
