Ricky Gervais snubbing British movies
Ricky Gervais has moved OFFICE from Brittain to the US when it comes to film roles feeling British films compared with American films are a bit like EXTRAS compared with star performers. He is the star of soon to be released Ghost Town a film role he says he took up after turning down many British film offers. In the film he plays a man who isn't a 'people person' - many of Gervais' roles have been similar and it would be interesting to see him play something outside this comfort zone type character. Hollywood is better perhaps at casting to type and maybe expects to do that with actors getting them to play to known strengths rather than stretch them artistically a reason that many American actors that do feel typecast often take a drop in salary to appear in a British film every now and then. Lets hope that Gervais doesn't get too typecast and that he might deign to appear in something British soon before his star starts to wane.
"[Ghost Town] is absolutely the best script I've read for a movie," Gervais told Empire magazine. "I must have turned down over a hundred movies over the years because they have to tick a lot of boxes for me to be interested."
"The Americans are just better at it than us," he continued. "There's an odd exception, but when it comes to making movies we don't really cut the mustard. Not since about 1950."

LotusFlower, I like this story. It's good stuff.
He has a good point - we've got a film industry full of talent that's going to waste. Perhaps if we stop making so many urban- and costume-dramas, start making entertainment, then people might go and see British films for a change.

It's not the first time Gervais has snubbed the industry that made him famous. I can see some of his points but I can help but feel that he's overall very disloyal.
