The Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais will be the host of the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards taking place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in January 2010. Gervais will be the first host the show has had since the 1995 broadcast.

There has not been a host for the Golden Globes in recent years as organizers of the awards show felt there was enough presence with celebrity presenters. Gervais' appearance as a presenter at last year's Golden Globes caught the attention of the show's organizers and he has been signed on to emcee the 2010 broadcast.

“Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host,” said Gervais. “I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down.”

Gervais has won three Golden Globe awards himself. His HBO comedy "Extras" won for best TV comedy last year.

Nominations for the 67th Golden Globes will be announced later this year on December 15th. NBC will broadcast the awards show live on January 17th, 2010.
