Director Ridley Scott's revisionist Robin Hood film, first dubbed Nottingham, has added another Hollywood heavyweight to its cast — respected actress Vanessa Redgrave.

Redgrave will portray Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine alongside an A-list of other actors already confirmed to be involved in the production, including: Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian; Mark Strong, Kevin Durand, and Scott Grimes as a group of adventurers; and of course Russell Crowe as either the Sheriff of Nottingham or as Robin Hood himself.

But this casting choice could be made even more interesting if Crowe were to do double duty as both the titular hero and his arch nemesis? Now that would be revisionist.

Scott's as yet untitled Robin Hood film is expected to be released in 2010.

Vanessa Redgrave has joined the cast of Ridley Scott's revisionist Robin Hood project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Redgrave will play the formidable Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of King John, in Scott's retelling of the Hood myth, which stars Russell Crowe as the Sheriff of Nottingham alongside Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. The production has been beset by problems but shooting is scheduled to begin imminently.

Another version of Robin Hood. How many movies have been made on the strength of this legend from Nottingham Forrest.Mind you ,the last one was good, Bryan Adams recorded the theme track.I think its called overkill.;when they repeat the same legend over and over again. What about the abundance of talent out there who have written wonderfull new and modern day screenplays. Why not invest in the future talent not history being continuiosly regurgitated.

Disney's Robin Hood remains my favourite.

I'm crazy about Ridley Scott and would normally go and see anything he and/or brother Tony are a part of. And Cate Blanchett and Vanessa Redgrave make even the umpteenth remake appealing. However, I've never been a fan of Russell Crowe, so if he plays Robin, I'll probably pass. If he plays the odious Sheriff, mmmmm, maybe.
