The Dexter season 4 finale, The Getaway,  ends with the unexpected death of Rita, Dexter's wife. This came as a spoiler for me, since I didn't get to watch the last several episodes. Thanks a lot, Internet, for ruining the twist!

Okay, so I hated Rita... but I didn't necessarily want her dead. Actually, I kinda did. It's nothing personal. Rita is a fictional character, whom Julie Benz brought to life brilliantly: I hate Rita so much because Julie Benz portrayed her so well. Thanks, Julie!

"This is fate"....... Xxoo
Julie Benz had deliberately obfuscated the finale's shocking twist, straight-up lying to us and telling us-- to our faces-- that Rita would live. That was the good kind of lie, the lie that makes TV more fun.
“I felt bad,” she confesses. “I even told you we shot multiple endings, which we did not.”

However, not all of the cast was informed about how the season would end, with John Lithgow (Trinity Killer) and David Zayas (Det. Batista) knowing before Julie Benz did. For Julie, though, it kind of sucks, since she's no longer part of the Dexter cast, flashbacks nonwithstanding. Still, she's got a lot going on, with three film in production.

why the twist in the ending? rita didn't have to die like that. this show is more darker than i thought. and it doesn't make me feel like watching the new season unless it's better without her.
