Jude Law is to play Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie's new Sherlock Holmes film with Robert Downey Jnr playing the opium smoking detective Sherlock Holmes. Another cops and robbers film for Ritchie but will it be in the same mould all be it set in Victorian times as Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels? We shall see!
It will not be the Sherlock Holmes on film many remember - the suave Basil Rathbone to the bumbling Nigel Bruce - but a new big budget action movie will be faithful to Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories, its director Guy Ritchie said yesterday.
Shooting is about to begin in London on the Warner Bros movie with Robert Downey Jr taking the lead alongside Jude Law, now confirmed as Dr Watson. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary, Rachel McAdams has signed on to play the traditional object of Holmes' affections, Irene Adler, while Mark Strong is Blackwood, the "unremittingly evil" baddie.

Director Guy Ritchie- famous for his mockney gangster movies- announced the killer cast at a press conference yesterday.
The film- titled Sherlock Holmes- will start shooting soon for three months in locations around London.
Also starring in the new version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories are Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly.
A rival comedy version of the murder mystery tales is in pre-production with Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen as Holmes and Watson.
Ritchie’s lead Downey Jr told the assembled media he didn’t know much about the famous English detective before taking the role.
