Dawn Schiller, Author of The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes, and Founder of the non profit to benefit throwaway teens, E.S.T.E.A.M., heads to North Carolina on November 9 for the North Carolina Governor’s Conference for Women. Dawn was invited to participate as a speaker for the annual event held in Raleigh, NC, and will be speaking and participating in panel discussions about “Investing in Women and Girls.”

Dawn has also been selected to be a guest at the Governor’s Mansion on the evening of November 8 with North Carolina Governor, Bev Purdue and other participants in the conference.
Those attending will be able to hear the keynote addresses by Sheryl WuDunn, a Pulitzer Prize winning Journalist and Author, as well as actresses, Andie McDowell and Gabourey Sidibe, Producer, Lisa Cortes, and Governor Bev Purdue. The lineup of speakers and panelists is quite impressive with many noted speakers, activists and advocates representing several areas of women’s issues which will be discussed.

It was recently announced that Melody Barnes, who was chosen by President Barack Obama to serve as the Director of the Domestic Policy Council for his administration, will also be a speaker at the Conference.
The North Carolina Governor’s Conference for Women is a powerful annual convening of more than 1,500 women from across the state for energizing dialogue on a variety of women’s issues. Launched in 2006 (then as the North Carolina Conference for Women), this day-long experience includes a mix of dynamic speakers, entertainment, and an interactive expo for networking, information sharing, and education.

Our mission is to provide a platform for women of all ages and backgrounds across North Carolina to network with peers and become informed on timely issues that are of value to today’s women. http://www.ncwomensconference.com/content/conference-overview

Denver is Dawn Schiller’s next stop where she will be participating in the National Women’s Studies Association Conference. Along with speaking, Dawn will be doing a reading and book signing session offering her book, The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes, which recounts her life as a dysfunctional teen who at 15 was groomed by adult film star, John Holmes.

Dawn will highlight her work with her new non-profit, E.S.T.E.A.M., which was created to mentor and help “throwaway teens,” and to show them the steps to a better life.
