Robocop Statue Fundraising Successful

The kickstarter project to build a statue of Robocop in Detroit has met its goal, raising over $50,000. No sense in cheaping out on your Robocop statue. The money was raised in less than a week, demonstrating the civic pride and can-do attitude that Detroit has been trying to market for years. (First look at the Robocop statue)

It sounds like a silly project, but getting citizens of Detroit to build a statue of Robocop accomplishes in real life what that Eminem Chrysler commercial only talks about.

The Robocop statue will not be built on public land, however. The Robocop statue supporters are now looking for a suitable spot of private land on which to erect their tribute to cyborg law enforcement. Remember that, behind all the metal and plastic, that's Alex Murphy's heart in there, and it must be swelling with pride.

"This was a really good guy who went through these things, and he never faltered, and he was reborn, and this is what's happening with the auto industry and with the city and it represents our toughness, and all this kind of stuff," Paffendorf said. "I think it's beautiful the way all those ideas mingle and people share them, and it's been really constructive."

Bruce Lee Statue Should Be Next

While we're erecting statues for movie heroes, what about Bruce Lee? San Francisco needs a Bruce Lee statue. After all, he was born and raised there.

Hong Kong has a Bruce Lee statue. Bosnia has a Bruce Lee statue. San Francisco should have a Bruce Lee statue.
