Robyn Crawford was Whitney Houston's personal assistant, as well as one of the pop star's best friends. Robyn Crawford was also rumored to have been Whitney Houston's lesbian lover.

Gay rights activist Peter Tatchell, who was previously quoted as saying that Whitney Houston and Robyn Crawford were more than just friends, has written an article for The Daily Mail in which he signs his name to the story, openly stating that Crawford and Houston had a lesbian relationship.

She was fearful of the effects that lesbian rumours might have on her family, reputation and career. Eventually she succumbed. The result? A surprise marriage to Bobby Brown.

Peter Tatchell says that Whitney Houston's marriage to Bobby Brown wasn't the beginning of her downward spiral per se, but that her separation from Robyn Crawford was to blame. Or, as he puts it, "Homophobia contributed to Whitney’s fall".
