The Rock Gone Wild 2009 festival has been cancelled. The four-day festival was scheduled for August 20-23 at the Diamond Jo Casino Festival Grounds in Northwood, Iowa, after losing its original venue, and the current incarnation of the event seems to have derailed due to disputes between event organizers and venue operators..
The lineup was a who's-who of 1980's hard rock, including:
The legal counsel for the event, Ted Sporer, says that Rock Gone Wild is "on life-support" but adds that it's not looking good. He tells KIMT News 3 that the dates of the event wouldn't change if it were to go on, stating, "it's either August 20 through 23 or not at all." He adds that his top priority is to save the event.
Diamond Jo's casino notified RGW promoter's yesterday that the event would not be allowed to take place on casino grounds. At this point, it would take a miracle to get a new site and setup in 10 days.

The event was never to be on Casino grounds, it was to be held in a farm filed to the North of the Casino. RGW didnt "lose" their original venue, it breached a contract with the original venue operators and tried to move to the casino area with only 5 weeks to prepare. There were no signed contracts with either the casino or the land owner ( or the current land renter).
The casino was never to host the event, it was just being used to help promote the event and the event was to be held on private property and was not under the control of the casino in any way at any time.

Donnie
Per our conversation this afternoon, Diamond Jo Casino will be the host site of the RGW concert.
Our original commitment of $xxx cash, xxx hotel room nights and xxx Buffet coupon still stands.
In addition, on our conference call, we requested the sexual & nudity content be removed from the promotional & website which was agreed upon.
Thanks

Not to mention the private land in question to the north of the casino is covered by 4 ft crops. I left the casino 45 min ago. Just what did the promoters have in mind, a sequel to Children of the Corn... Or some hide and seek for the fans?

If anyone reads this from the RGW forums... since I can't post there... I might suggest you all make arrangemebts for another site to stay in contact. I am sure it is only a matter of time before they shut those forum boards down. Whole group there that had anything to do with planning this sound fishy if you ask me, but that's from an outsider reading....
Sorry you all got screwed, I have been trying to get tickets for the past 2 weeks as I live pretty close...Not once was I able to get through to anyone, and the RGW site never ok'd my request to become a member in that same timeframe.
Personally, being a Diamond Jo regular... (and no I am in no way affiliated with the casino)
I wouldn't be blaming anyone other than the organizer's. The community nor the casino are the ones that stole your money. Just my 2 cents.
GL to you all.

I didn't even lose any money on this thing and I can't sleep. I can only imagine how all these people feel. Sitting here playin a shoot em up game refreshing the RGW forum pages and this site every few minutes. Like reading a bad book that you can't put down.
Funny thing is now there is some 'yepyep' spamming their forums about how they got screwed by Diamond Jo's. Tell me how this 'yepyep' got an account ok'd just tonight to post there when I have been waiting 2 weeks to get accepted with no answer. I doubt the moderators first priority is accepting some new 'unknown' to the forums!
Everyone associated with RGW deserves to be thrown in prison and no less.

Bristish rockers TIGERTAILZ pulled out from this concert a few weeks ago due to the terrible organisation of the whole event. It was always destinted never to happen by all accounts and a complete farse. I feel sorry for all the fans that have been ripped off and hope the organisers get whats coming to them.

im in the works to sue the promotor of RGW. i spent $20,000 on a lawyer from Chicago.
at 20:29 on August 8th, 2009
If you seriously did this you are a bigger idiot than the pay to play bands RGW ripped off.

John,
Please contact me through www.rockandahardplace.proboards.com. I'm from Chicago and bought 4 Platinum tickets to the event. Would love to know which law firm you contacted.

Hey,
I bought 2 platinum tickets , actually never felt so betrayed. I'm still in aw. Should have had a clue when they started selling tickets on lay-away play last month. Or the town printed on the ticket called jinx.
Locally a lady scammed the local fair board out of a few hundred thousand and got 15 years prison.
Some state representatives need to be contacted about this, there were thousands of tickets sold of different levels and you can not tell me a percentage of that money is not sitting in a bank account gaining interest.
It just amazes me that I have not received 1 phone call after purchasing 2 of 500 platinum ticket.
I tried to email the lawyer and that email does not exist. This seriously is totally not right, maybe next week we will see some action, I contacted the local TV station and they did not know anything about it. Our local cable company is seriously still running the promo clip.
If I was any corporate sponsor of this venue I would be seeking answers.
Is this a show of how weak the people of the U.S.A has become that thousands of people will sit back and get totally ripped of by this scam, by a few greedy individuals.
We have no support what so ever or answers other than supposedly from a lawyer whom I have yet been able to contact.
If that guy with 20,000 for a lawyer is serious he must be as pissed off as me if I had a 100 grand sittin around Id have these scum bags prosecuted some way or another. It is principal and non-professionalism not the money that matters to me.
PEACE

The landowners north of the casino where willing to enter into a contract to provide the land for camping and stages, but the promoters of RGW would not enter into a contract, or put any money up front to help aid in preperation costs.
Being upset with Diamond Jo or the people of Northwood is misdirected anger, the promoters are 100% responsible for the fallout of the event.

Its all just a bunch of bullshit!!!Anyway you look at it..People are having a hard time with this recession..Money because of lack of jobs is hard to come by..If not try to stretch on the little amount of unemployment due to "no jobs"..So when you put money aside to atleast try to make good out of a bad situation..Then to find out no good came of it after all.Plus the double whammy of finding out you can't even get yor money back??That's just bullshit!!Somebody better take care of this whole mess..I know alot of the bands were looking forward to it as well..Reschedule..Reschedule..Thats the least they can do

I know what the original contract was with ABATE of Iowa and I can state that Freedom Park would have held 10,000-20,000 concert goers easily. RGW breeched that contract without notice and we found out by word of mouth before it was confirmed by the promoters.
I had asked Donnie Frizzell if I could trust them the week-end before the foth of July after dealing with two promotwers for RGW one to find a site and the the first promoter. Donnie stated his word was golden, well so much for his word.

Sounds to me like these promoters should find another line of work! I feel bad for people who were coming from long distances! They will probably lose some money on bookings of Flights, Hotels, RVS,etc.,etc. Never mind the vacation time they now may have lost! I myself was looking forward to this event! If you want to experience something close to this, you have to travel to Europe! Oh yeah, people were traveling from Europe to see n' hear this event too! Alot of them got SCREWED AS WELL!
at 15:05 on August 11th, 2009
I'm sorry, but who in their right mind would have come to this event from Europe?

(anybody ever been out there when freedom ralley is goen on) but oh well guess abate and algona will think twice befor doen somethen like this again..

I was looking forward into coming back to Iowa to attended the show I was on my way home to Nebraska when I heard about Rock Gone Wild was happening, then to go and search the internet to find out more details. I find out that this event has been cancelled., I was so looking forward to hearing Sevendust and all the other bands.

I would say it was frivilous from the beggining, one week tickets were one price and the next week another .Then when you call for tickets you get peoples personal voice mail hmmmm!!!!!! I am an abate member and live in algona ,the promoters were at abate set up selling tickets and it just seemed a little fishy not a very profesional set up .I lived in california for many years and been to many day on the greens in sfo, and it was a blast wish it would've happened. The promoter's could've made a good name for there self's but put there ass in prison cause the saying goes if you are dumb suffer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! clint in Atown
at 08:05 on August 18th, 2009
maybe abate should get the help of some of the big band's and promote a there own power house line up of big name band's in the freedom park ? They could promote the freedom rally at the same time maybe, get more member's possibly and more revenue to promote safety for bikers. Would make alot of fans happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at 19:06 on August 19th, 2009
freedom park was a great place to hold the event but the facts are.
the event promoters did not pay the rent in time per dead lines
but the didnt sell enough tickets in advance either to pay for the event as this is want they were counting on or hoping for.
all of RGW promoters new this and were wishing for the best out come but it failed or backfired.
RGW was going to have there own stages for the bands as stated in the RGW web site.
why else would thay have to look for a different venue site the one at DJCasino would have been much smaller than freedom park
i am sure glad i didnt get involved with this
