RP religious group leads Philippine Web Awards with 3 finalists

Makati City, Philippines - At the 11th edition of the Philippine Web Awards, the religious group, Members Church of God International (MCGI) garnered the most number of nominations with three vying for the best website honors in several site categories, based on the list issued by the said award-giving committee on its website last 9th Jan. 2009.
MCGI's official organization website, which can be accessed at angdatingdaan.org, and its online magazine portal, kaanib.net are now finalists in their respective categories.
Other finalists in the organization category are those from HAPAG-ASA, Non-Timber Forest Product Exchange Program, Ilustrador ng Kabataan, and Bible Encyclopedia. In the magazine category, kaanib.net will compete with Meg and Appetite magazines.
The blog site of Bro. Eli Soriano, MCGI presiding minister and the phenomenal radio-television host of the Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path), esoriano.wordpress.com, will vie for the best blog award against previous edition's winner, Touched by An Angel blog. Other finalists in this category include the Daily Grind Clothing, Pinoy Web Startup, and phcommute.
UNTVweb.com, the online presence of UNTV 37 which air mostly public service programs, and the Ang Dating Daan program, made it in the finalist's slate under the entertainment category. It won last 2007's best media website award and the people's choice honors. To complete the list, other finalists in this category include abs-cbn.com, Kabataan News Express, JAM 88.3, and Fliptunes.
In the celebrities and personalities category, Mr. Public Service's website, danielrazon.com, which won two awards in the previous edition of the Philippine Web Awards, will compete against the websites of Congresswoman Mitos H. Magsaysay and Sen. Aquilino 'Nene' Q. Pimentel, Jr.
Media G8Way, the event organizer, will give a total of 18 best website honors and 18 people's choice awards on 27th November, 2009.

I had to visit the sites to see what's the competition this year, but I am more concerned with the blogs.
There are five nominees, and they are varying in fields. The first one I saw was more on the visuals, noisy colors, too many photos that are lacking in stories. There were tattoos, a bunch of skateboarders in the highway, bands and more photos without stories. I'd say after seeing all the photographs of those party people (nothing that I haven't seen before), I really didn't learn anything new. Count on this: in 10 minutes time, you've seen everything it has to offer.
Well, that's for the first one (a photographic pollution). I'll try to visit the others.

The second one I saw was more interesting. I'm not a techy-person or a cyber-geek but at least I can get something from this one, like updates on what's happening in the Philippines regarding information and communications, web designs and the likes. So if you're into this kind of thing, although the site hasn't been updated for quite a while, you probably can get a few things from here, too.

The third one is about commuting in the Philippines. This is very helpful to Filipinos traveling within the country, and also to tourists.
The site has vicinity maps and step-by-step instructions on how to get to where you would like to go. The instructions are very simple, too.
They now have an Interactive Map of the Philippines, although still in Beta.

The fourth one is a typical blog by a Filipina mom blogger who's recovering from the death of her 6-year old son.The blog contains her reflections on her experiences and tackles issues of similar nature in and out of the country. She made blogging like a survival kit, I guess.
There is a poem there asking justice for his son's death. She questions God why it happened to her son while other hoodlums are still on earth. This probably proves the last blog nominee isn't the least.

This is a religious blog, but it also tackles scientific research and misconceptions and how they relate to biblical verses. It has over a hundred articles already, and the ones I've read are very interesting; others quite controversial to the society and even in scientific communities.
The first two articles are about the Virginia mass murder and the possibility of another Earth in the universe. I've also spotted the Origin of the Humankind (very controversial), and From Dust to Man, a Scientific Proof. So, very catchy at the least, and the scope is very broad, too. A blog to watchout for.

Have been a follower of the said event and it's pretty exciting. The sites metioned have been consistent winners for People's Choice Award.

Yes, these sites have earned People's Choice honors in the past. But these sites also earned best website awards such as Kaanib.net.
Last year, sites of UNTV 37 site and Mr. Daniel Razon was awarded the best website honors in their respective categories.
Of the lot, Ang Dating Daan Bible Exposition online, from what I gathered, is a constent winner of the Most Popular Website of the Year since 2003.
