Ryan Adams Vs. The L.A. Times
The reviewer, Mikael Wood, suggested that Adams, who has been sober for more than two years after a substance abuse problem, was under the influence during the performance.
Wood wrote, “Apparently irritated by the audience’s reluctance to receive his music with the hushed reverence it deserves, Adams retreated to sarcasm (not to mention bizarre, possibly booze-fueled ruminations on Jethro Tull and ‘the tyranny and horrors of math’).”
Adams is unhappy about the article and is demanding an apology from the L.A. Times.
In a posting on his blog Adams wrote, “Alcohol was awful for me and my relationships, for my music and for my band. I was not fit mentally to handle it … i hated myself because i felt like i was going insane, i knew it was hurting my best friends and they were sad. It was a light but crystal clear epiphany- and like that, sober now, almost three years.”
Although the L.A. Times is aware Adams is mad about the review, they have as-of-yet, not apologized.
