NP Rank:
Sadly another Police officer killed, by a stolen snowplow.
TORONTO - January 13/2011
Sergeant Ryan Russell, 35, of the Toronto Police Service (TPS) was killed early yesterday morning as he was run down by a stolen snowplow in downtown Toronto. The driver Richard Kachkar, 44, of no fixed address, has been charged with first degree murder and also faces two counts of attempted murder.
At about 5am without any shoes he jumped into a running snowplow and went on a rampage through the streets of Toronto. Two hours later he had run into several cars and hit Russell and continued on where he was stopped and fired at by several Emergency Task Force officers, and pulled from the truck and struck by three police bullets and rushed to the same hospital as the TPS Sergeant.
Russell, who had just been promoted to sergeant six months earlier was an 11 year veteran of the TPS and leaves a wife and one young child.
