Salvia Divinorum Prohibition Era
It's too bad seeing Salvia Divinorum plant put through trials like the Cannibis Sativa plant. The marijuana prohibition itself was the lamest government scheme to this day. Which has been hurting our nation for over 70 years now, with it's imaginary drug wars. The motivation for the very first laws criminalizing marijuana were social conflict and tension, economic prejudice, and downright discriminatory intent. Originally Americans that knew about cannibus used its extracts for some herbal remedies and teas,as well as all of the materials they created from hemp. At this time Americans were afraid of the different culture that had brought marijuana with them so they went on to pass malicious rumors calling it “the killer drug”. This was the time of reefer madness and alot of prejudice between races. At the same time morphine had become very popular in elixirs and since they had let the war vets get hooked on it,there was no reason to debate it’s use.The drug of choice drug was morphine, derivatives of opium such as heroin, and derivatives of the coca leaf such as cocaine were fast on the rise though. Alcohol was also becoming a staple of booming cities where it was involved in social structure, recreational structure, and industrial structure. In 1914 and 1919, The Harrison Act and Alcohol Prohibition were enacted and imposed respectively. The Harrison Act was composed of two taxes. An extremely low tax for doctor’s so they could legally sell drugs since they were now criminalized, and an extremely high tax for any non-medical transaction of such drugs therefore criminalized . The drafters of the Harrison Act masqueraded their slanted scheme as a tax. In this way they, referring to the upper class who controlled everything, could arrest, fine, prosecute, and incarcerate anyone opposing them . Here the government controlled all profits gained by doctors giving their patients taxed addictive drugs. At this point they were very afraid of ’substitution’ of the alcohol, heroine, morphine, cocaine. So afraid that all of the states prohibited Marijuana except for Utah. Whom eventually banned it since it wasnt used for religious use to them.
Now here it is close to a century later and we are still battling to legalize cannibis. Doctors are still prescribing pills that contain small amounts of morphine, cocaine, and heroine. People consume alcohol heavily and it’s taken a toll on society. The drugs the doctors give you are still addictive. However these plants that were used centuries ago are still under question. While some states are finally becoming wise to cannibis’s medicinal uses and doctors can prescribe it. The situation the government has put us in, makes people doubt the seriousness of the situation we are in again. Salvia Prohibition. People are using Salvia for medicinal use already. Not a large population uses it and it hasnt proven to harm anyone. If Salvia Divinorum gets banned we will miss out on all the medical research it has in store for us.It could take centuries again for us to hopefully regain the use of this plant. I urge you to write your congress pressing them to think positively of this plant. It could be our only hope. For more great information please visit FreshSalvia.com
