Director Sam Mendes and actress Kate Winslet have split up earlier this year. They made the announcement of the split through their lawyers. In the statement, it says "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year."

According to the statement, the split is "entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement." They have a child together, and "both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."

Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet married in a private ceremony in 2003 in the West Indies. This is Kate Winslet's second marriage. Her first was with James Threapleton in 1998, which ended in 2001. Kate Winslet has a daughter, Mia, with James Threapleton.

Sam Mendes, 44, won an Oscar for Best Director for American Beauty in 2000. He's the director for Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), and Revolutionary Road (2008).

Kate Winslet, 34, won the Best Actress Oscar for The Reader in 2008. She was the lead actress for James Cameron's Titanic in 1997.
