Sanford Wallace, a prolific Facebook spammer, has been ordered to pay Facebook $711 million. Of course, Sanford Wallace is broke, so that probably won't happen, but still, take note, all you douchebag spammers: SPAM DON'T PAY!
Oh, and it gets better: this Sanford Wallace guy was fined $230 million for spamming MySpace, and $4 million for spamming the web with annoying pop-ups.
Wallace was successfully sued last year, also for spreading spam, by MySpace, which won a $230-million judgment. He was also fined $4 million in 2006 by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for spreading pop-up ads online.
Facebook said it doesn't expect to get any money out of Wallace, who is bankrupt, but added that he could face jail time.
Will this stop spam? Nope. Will it even slow spam down? No. Will it make me feel better? Yup.

Facebook is hoping to get more spams to make money...

This is great, but the whole process seems a little backward. All the coverage says that Facebook will never see the money, and other places are saying that if Facebook's goal was to get Wallace jail time, they should have used a whole other body of law: jolt.unc.edu/blog/2009/11/06/facebook-spammer-711-million-judgment-should-be-least-his-worries
