Santacon 2009 took place in New York City today and thousands of people dressed as Santa converged on the meeting points to raise money and food for charity.

The five meeting points were Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and New Jersey, where the Santas toured the city before meeting at Washington Square Park.

Funnily enough, this message was sent out over the police scanner this afternoon:

Santacon can go by the name of Naughty Santas, Cheapsuit Santas, Santarchy, Santa Rampage, Santapalooza and the Red Menace and events are held all over the world on the days leading up to Christmas.

Some Santacons focus more on drinking or pub crawls, while others are more focused on doing good deeds and raising money for charity.
