Sarah Palin's Lawyers Take On the Internet
Sara Palin's lawyers have three words for the Internet: "cease and desist". Alternately, those three words could be "leave Sarah alone!" The law firm of Clapp Peterson Van Flein Tiemessen Thorsness (am I leaving anyone out?) sent out a press release that basically bit the had that fed their client. Sarah Palin's resignation stirred stories small-town corruption, in the Village Voice and Vanity Fair in particular. First comes the nastygram, and next come the blanket and the flashlight.
Trust your humble Truemorist, Palin's lawyers: you definitely do not want the web to abandon Sarah Palin: she'll have no career otherwise.
First mistake: thinking anyone actually reads Village Voice articles.
Second mistake: telling bloggers to do anything. They'll just do the opposite. It's like wrangling cats.
Several bloggers and some mainstream media reporters wrote that Palin is resigning as Governor of Alaska because she may be facing a criminal investigation over materials used to build her home in Wasilla, Alaska and those used to build the Wasilla Sports Complex. Palin’s lawyer Thoman Van Flein issued a letter over the weekend to media and bloggers that were talking about this, and stated that the soon to be ex-Governor of Alaska “will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.”
As Obi Wan would have said, "If you choose to face the Internet, you will do it alone. I cannot interfere."
