School Chief Kathy Cox Wins $1 Million On Game ShowCox Won 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?'POSTED: 6:26 am EDT September 6, 2008UPDATED: 2:10 pm EDT September 6, 2008Georgia schools superintendent Kathy Cox proved she is smarter than a fifth-grader, winning a million dollars for her school system on a popular game show on Friday night.Cox appeared on the third season premiere of Fox's "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" She answered 10 questions correctly before getting the final million dollar one about who was the longest reigning British monarch.
  • TAKE THE TEST: Are You Smarter Than Kathy Cox?
  • "Being on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" was a wonderful experience and I hope the citizens of Georgia feel that I represented our state well," Cox told wsbtv.com."I went on '5th Grader' because it is a family-friendly show that promotes the importance of education in a fun way and it is hosted by one of our own -- Jeff Foxworthy," she said.Cox competed against two others on the show, which was filmed last month. The Republican superintendent drew criticism for appearing on the show from some who said she had better things to do."Obviously, I am very pleased with the outcome. But I hope the larger message to the children of Georgia is the importance of going all the way through school and getting a diploma. Make a commitment to stay in school. Go for it and lock it in! An education is something that can never be taken away from you!" Cox said.
