Scotty McCreery wins American Idol

Huge amounts of confetti fell upon Scotty and Lauren, but it was all for Scotty, the new American Idol. Country Western is back and dignity was reclaimed for North Carolina (after the John Edwards affair). This was a win for teens too.

Do you think there could be a revitalization of country-western movies featuring Scotty as a singing all-American? He is now the king of grocery store baggers. They’ll all start singing now, all the way to the car, a new Ford, no less.

The show provided an opportunity for judges to perform as well as a host of featured visits from current pop music celebrities. It will be hard to top this season.

When the Idol Top Ten tour, maybe Fox can make something of a special out of that?

By the way, Tom Jones showed up. He is not an American. Who the hell is that old geezer?

Scotty and Lauren will cut duets together. Wow, that would be something. Just like I predicted – a new Johnny Cash family in the making.

“Scotty McCreery wants to cut duets with Lauren Alaina

"I said, look, we've been together since Day 1, and we're still together," he says. "We met the first day in Hollywood, we've been good friends through it all, we've been classmates. I just said this ain't the end and we're gonna keep on working. We sound good together. It'd be nice to get some duets."

Scotty says that he he had no idea how his trip to Milwaukee last summer to audition would turn out the way it did: "We went out there on a whim, just kind of a summer vacation. It's funny what a summer vacation can turn into."

He also made a point of acknowledging the fans who voted for him throughout the competition. "Country fans are great," he says. "They're loyal. I've got to thank them because they're the reason I'm still here."

As for Lauren, she said, "I have gone way farther than I ever expected to go. Everything is going to be icing on the cake from now on."
