Rumours have been flying all around the internet that International Reggae Dancehall star Sean Paul was arrested in Sweden after narcotics police conducted a raid backstage at the Upsalla Concert in Sweden recently.
But contrary to reports by online media outlets, sources close to the artist and his management team clarified the rumor and gave a solid account of the incident that transpired.
Sean Paul was included in a random roundup by local police authorities last friday, obviously on a campaign to crack down on excessive marijuana smoking at the Upsalla Reggae festival, notoriously known for heavy use amongst its patrons.
Marijuana consumption is illegal in Sweden.
Sean Paul was rounded up along with a number of other artistes, members of production and fans that were backstage on Friday Night during the raid.
All were detained, questioned and released after a few hours, and was marred only by an unfortunate incident where the Hotel room of Sean Paul and his personal belongings were searched without a warrant or request by Swedish police authorites.
Sean Paul and his support team left Sweden on Saturday to honor his other commitments throughout Europe including live performances in Italy, Tunisia, Russia and Malta before returning to Jamaica on Friday for his performance on this year’s Summer staging of Champions In Action, to be held on Saturday August 16th, at The Jamworld Complex in Portmore, Jamaica.
