If Miley Cyrus is #1 then Selena Gomez is #2. Or is that Demi Lovato? Either way, she wants to be the first to leave Disney behind. Or it seems that way. The 17-year-old star of Wizards of Waverly Place has signed on for New Line Cinema's What Boys Want. It's basically Mel Gibson's What Women Want, but with a teenage girl instead. Sounds silly, but one has to pay their dues. Gomez has been doing that for a while. In 2008 she starred in the Warner Bros sequel, Another Cinderella Story. And this year she'll star in Fox's adaptation of the children's classic, Ramona and Beezus. Although she'll have better luck with that picture.

Meanwhile, Cyrus is also trying to break away with a more mature film. This year she'll star in The Last Song which is written by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook). Problem is that it's a Disney flick. So, she's still on a leash.

That gives Gomez the upper hand. Once she turns 18 and can start accepting more adult roles she'll be ahead of the current Disney kids. She could even be the female Shia LaBeouf. So, keep an eye out for Gomez. Within the next two or three years we'll be seeing more of her.
