Sex and the City 2 Reviews and Photos From UK Premiere
Sex and the City 2 Opens May 27 and the Reviews are In! Here are a Round-Up
Fans of Sex and the City will not care about the reviews for SATC 2 and that is probably a good thing because most of them are not favorable.
Fans will argue that the movie is not for the reviewers anyway and they are probably right, but we have rounded up some of the reviews for you so you can judge for yourself.
MTV states merely that 'the party's over' and says this second movie is a 'stake in the heart of the great TV series'.
The writing, which was one of the glories of the TV series, sharp and pungent, is here abysmally juvenile. Samantha, upon learning that a World Cup soccer team has arrived on the scene: "Did they bring their balls?" And later, spotting a hot guy in the desert: "Lawrence of my labia!" At one point someone actually says, "Abu Dhabi do!"
Rotten Tomatoes has only given the film a 3.8 rating out of 10 so far and one of the excerpts of reviews from the Dallas Morning News reads:
Like a plastic surgeon, storyteller King keeps trying to find new ways to lift and tighten his characters, but they have become garish caricatures of themselves
The Austin Chronicle says that the film exists in a 'sparkle free zone' and mostly blames the story premise and the dialogue. This review says that the fashion even suffers in this film and laments the fact that there is no sex in this Sex and the City.
Even the New York Times did not have many good things to say about the famous New York TV show (although this movie mostly takes place in Abu Dhabi so it does not really count), and likens the movie to Liza Minnelli's performance of All the Single Ladies - starts out campy and affectionate and then turns desperate and a little sad.
The longest segment of “Sex and the City 2” consists of a drooling, gawking deluxe tour that would not be out of place in a high-end travel magazine or a hip-hop video.
The attempt to be both piously respectful of a foreign culture and to stand up for sexual liberation against repressive tradition may be admirable in principle, but in practice it’s silly and strained.
The Globe and Mail wraps up their review with :
It’s worse than Sex and the City 1, and that alone is a remarkable achievement.
Fans did not seem to care about any review however when they lined the red carpet in London for the Sex and the City 2 UK premiere.
The stars of the movie did not disappoint, turning out in striking fashions and posing and signing autographs on the carpet.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Chris Noth were just some of the stars in attendance. We've got pictures from the UK premiere below for you:
