SFU Surrey: A place to socialize or study?
Since the Simon Fraser University (SFU) Surrey campus has opened, it has been widely popular for it’s infamous study rooms, that are open all day and night. SFU Surrey has been attracting students and adults from many other post-secondary institutes and even high schools to study in the study rooms. Although, the rooms may be locked at 7pm, and only SFU students can obtain access to them, people are still able to find ways into getting into a room. But how much studying is actually going on here? To my knowledge, the majority of the students are actually studying hard for an upcoming exam, but for certain others it has become a big social gathering. I’ve seen that a lot of people take up rooms and just sit there with no books in hand. A few months ago, I went into a study and was about to throw something in the trash can when I noticed something very inappropriate in there (something so inappropriate that I will not mention it). I was very disgusted on what could have been going on in that room, although I was just assuming it did. I’ve heard many people saying that they will be going to SFU Surrey for a study session, but don’t quite actually get to the studying portion of the time there. Because of the social status that the Surrey campus has brought forth, many students might not be doing as great as they expected or hoped to do. As a result, grades will be dropping. I believe by letting the doors open to any whom pleases causes the status of SFU Surrey will keep going down as it is only seen as a place for socialization.
