Last week, in an unexpected change of events, the Subway located at Simon Fraser University's (SFU) food court had decided to remove their popular sub-of-the-day special. The deal offered by Subway entitled customers to a designated 6 inch sandwich of the day for a low price of $2.99. Sandwiches that were once $2.99 can now be found on the menu ranging from $3.69 to a whopping $4.49! What came as a shock to many customers, surprises students the most.
"It completely caught me off guard," said Davide Larosa, a frequent Subway visitor and student. " I mean, it does not get much better than a 6 inch Italian B.M.T. for $2.99, but now it's gone." The decision to remove the special is confusing because the majority of Subway's customers ordered the sub-of-the-day. This causes one to wonder what will happen to customer traffic, assuming that it will only drop.

While many students are disappointed with the change, others are angry. "We pay thousands of dollars in tuition and books, gas prices are high as ever and now we lose the sub-of-the-day. How much worse can it get," complained a group of venting SFU students. Due to the current economic depression, many question if the move was made to boost sales and profits without loosing a significant amount of business. On top of all this confusion, when asked why the sub-of-the-day was removed, a Subway employee replied, "I'm not sure."

Perhaps we will never know, but in the meantime, students and customers are looking to alternatives. "A&W's got two mama's for $6 and KFC's got 'Twoonie Tuesday'", said Davide. "It's all good."

Raise a bit of a stink about this and send emails to Subway's headquarters.

Here in the NW, the $5 is still on for all foot longs.
