Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan no longer feels like stepping on US soil as a result of an unpleasant encounter with US customs. This past weekend, Shahrukh Khan was detained by US immigration en route to a show in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

US Officials claim that the incident was simply a routine process that took a little bit longer than usual because Shahrukh Khan's bag was missing; however, Khan says that the US Officials at Newark airport held him up because of his Muslim surname. He also thought it was unprofessional of the officials to prevent him from calling the local organizers of his show because he was late.

Profusely apologising to his fans for arriving two hours late at the casino city of New Jersey for Saturday's function, 'King' Khan stunned the large number of Indian-Americans when he told them that he does not feel like stepping on the American soil any more, but it is the love and affection of millions of his fans in the US which would bring him to this country again and again.

The incident has stuck a deep chord with the Indian public. Stories about the incident currently occupy the top four slots on the Times of India's most read list.

"The incident has stuck a deep chord with the Indian public"
I would say bullshit..! Indian public reacted with maturity and did not carried away with Khan's and his buddy Karan Johar's antic tactic. They tried to hijack Indian independence day celebrations  for their personal gain and should be shot for treason..!
If someone visit another country, he / she should expected to follow and obey their rules.Since he is a celebrity in India and can bend and break rule because of that does not mean that the same way things happen in elsewhere. He was not "detained" as he claimed. He was asked 'questions' just for 66 minutes (not for 2 hours as he lied). There is no need for the stupid Indian media to make such a hue and cry about all these because Indians  - unlike the dark ages - can understand the situation in other parts of the world as well.
If you want to know how Indians reacted, see this.
[q url=""After a long time actor Salman Khan has come up with a real gem. On hearing about Shah Rukh Khan being questioned by US security at Newark, New Jersey, he said it’s good that the country has such a tight set-up. And that ``there has been no attack after 9/11 because of this.’’

Salman has a point. SRK might be an icon to Indians and many in the subcontinent, even to the desi diaspora spread across the globe, but to America he’s just a visitor. We may be convinced he cannot be involved in anything that’s remotely violent, but the guard given the responsibility of stopping something like 9/11 from happening in his country again will want to take no chances. And what is the possibility that he’s a die hard fan of the Khan and Bollywood? Very slim.

Interestingly, the same day that SRK was detained in Newark, there came news that the great Bob Dylan, who was wandering around Long Branch, near New York City, sometime back, was asked for an ID by two cops too young to know who he really was. When he couldn’t furnish one, he was taken right back to the resort where he was putting up and staff there vouched for him. And America is Dylan’s own country.

Was there a furore? Not that I know of. Not even a little blowin' in the wind.[/q]

Oh, did I forgot to add?

The moment he was out of the airport, he decided to play the "Muslim" card one which he is sure that everyone will pay instant attention. Cry "discrimination" and "Allah" and lo, you have the media at your footstep..!

He proved that he is a muslim first and in heart , not an Indian. Even though he has got a non-muslim wife (not yet converted..!)
