Shamrock Fest 2009 is taking place at RFK Stadium in Washington DC today for St. Patrick's Day and it includes more than 50 live bands, unlimited green beer and of course, a few leprechauns thrown in for good measure.

The streets of Washington DC are closed down to cars for a 40 acre area where bands can play, DJs can spin, people can Irish dance or you can just take part in some traditional Irish pub games.

Some information about the festival below:

  • Metro has increased the number of trains coming directly to the RFK Stadium stop to "All Trains On Track" status. Parking is also available in Lot 7
  • CASH ONLY AT EVENT
  • Event is rain or shine (limited covered areas)
  • If you choose to drive, here are directions and a map
  • A printable version of the site map and band lineup is online: click here

  • This is known as the biggest St. Patrick's Day party outside of Ireland, so be prepared for huge crowds and lots of excessive drinking.
