5/15/10: I was asked recently ask how to photograph water drops, Well thought this would be a great opportunity to answer this question, Water droplet photography is easy to get started with, and you can get as complex as you want. There are three tricks to making beautiful, time-scultped water pictures with a single small flash: Light placement, timing and flash duration.
1) Open the faucet to a slow slow drip.
2) Learn the timing until I can sort of anticipate when the water will drop off.
3) Set your camera to a fairly fast shutter speed (1/250 and Higher) to "freeze" the action
4) Use flash unless your environment is well lit.
5) Focus on the subject
These days we use digital cameras so i would suggest taking a lot of trial and error shots until you are comfortable, When I started out I had to take around 2- 3 shots just to get one I like, but we live in a digital age, therefore take as many shots as you need trial and error, this is how we learn.
Remember take as many shots as you need, trial and error, this is how we learn.
