With the Vancouver 2010 Olympics approaching quickly, many are thinking of changes in local business, development, and transit that the games will bring.

Ben Hulse's mind however, is elsewhere.

You may have spotted some of the brightly coloured posters or television advertisements promoting the 2010 Olympic Winter games.
These were designed in part by Hulse, a Simon Fraser University graduate from the School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) Program there.

Hulse was recently interviewed by the university to talk about his experiences working on the designs which will identify Vancouver and the upcoming events.

"I was part of a small design team tasked to create the ‘look of the Games’", says Hulse during the interview, "It was a very exciting, but daunting task".

The graphics and logos he and other VANOC designers have helped create will appear on anything from merchandise to stadiums where the games will be held.

In addition, Hulse has contributed to the design of the Olympic torch to be used during the ceremonies of the games. Hulse and his colleagues from VANOC worked closely with Bombardier Inc. on the design. "It was a very collaborative process", says Hulse, "...consistently sending ideas and [...] consistently playing with them, morphing them, combining them, and complimenting them."

Hulse credits his ability to work in many mediums to his education in the SIAT program. "During the SIAT program, it was sometimes daunting covering such a huge range of design disciplines and medias. But that is now the reality of my work."
