Simon Cowell and girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy are officially engaged after rumors flew around the Internet that the duo might be getting hitched soon. The couple met a few years ago on American Idol and have been dating for almost a year.

Mezghan Hussainy confirmed the happy news to RadarOnline and even showed them her huge sparkling engagement ring. No date for the wedding has been released yet.

Simon Cowell's publicist Max Clifford told RadarOnline:

“They are very suited,” Clifford said earlier. “She is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that. He's probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I've been working with him."
