The Simpsons awarded Guinness world record for longest running sitcom, displaced 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet which had 435 episodes. Simpsons also has the Guinness record for the most Emmy's for a single show, and named "one of the most important thing that have happened in the last 10 years."

This announcement of the Guinness record came as a surprise, when the representative from the Guinness Book of World Records made a surprise appearance at the panel to honor the creator Matt Groening and other crew members.

At Comic-Con, Matt Groening was surprised by an award from that other record book ("I'm not from the Duff Book of Records, I'm from the real one," the representative said) for the longest running sitcom in history -- surpassing Ozzie and Harriet's record of 435 episodes. That's on top of the award for most Emmys won by a single show and being named "one of the most important things that have happened in the last 10 years." Take that, Obama!

The Simpsons fans also got a scoop of new episode ideas, that will be featured in the 21st season.
But today, the keepers of Springfield's 21st Season on the air are here to share a few new episode ideas in the works, as well an exclusive look at the still-in-progress "Treehouse of Horror XX", which will air before Halloween for once. (Wahoo!)

...

Also, Matt Groening "admitted" that the "The Family Guy", was the inspiration for "The Simpsons" ;)

The panel was as funny as you would expect a bunch of creative minds from one of the most successful television shows in history to be. One fan asked where the inspiration for "The Simpsons" came from:

"I was influenced by 'The Family Guy,'" Groening quipped, referring to the other animated show that, upon its launch in 1999, was maligned for being similar to "The Simpsons," including a fat, moronic father with three kids as the central character.

Matt Groening vows "The Simpsons" is going to be there forever.

Despite 20 years of episodes, countless cultural references and a hell of a lot of awards, Groening promises the show isn't going anywhere. "The is no end in sight. Simpsons forever!"

Aye carumba! Though I don't think you can quite say Groening admitted Family Guy was THE inspiration for the Simpsons, particularly when the Simpsons was on air way before Family Guy.
