Slutwalkers focused on wrong aspect of rape
Slutwalkers paraded along the streets in 2011 declaring that being half-dressed or partially nude does not invite rape. Instead they should have been protesting that the definition of rape was so archaic that it allowed many rapists to continue sexually assaulting women and men.
Crime reports using a narrower definition of rape left thousands of cases unreported. So when 84,767 rapes were reported in 2010, it did not even include statistics covering men who had been raped. Finally, in 2012, the definition of rape has been updated and the result will be an accurate count of sexual assaults. It will assist law enforcement in taking rapists off the streets.
