A smashed up, duct taped Fender Mustang guitar belonging to Kurt Cobain of Nirvana has been sold for $100,000.

A smashed guitar from the late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain has been sold to an unidentified private collector for $100,000.

Helen Hall, a broker in England, says it's the second-highest known price for an item of Cobain memorabilia.

"There's not a huge amount of broken Nirvana guitars out there," says Jacob McMurry, of the Experience Music Project in Seattle, who's displayed the guitar.  Most amount to "little slivers and fragments."
A news release from Hall said the highest price paid for a piece of Cobain memorabilia was $131,000 at a 2006 auction for his Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar.

My Squire Made in Japan Vista Series Jagmaster is my favorite, and I have Fender Cyclone too.

G-Taranaki July 2008, New Plymouth, New Zealand. This photo is of 2 of many guitars on display at Puke Ariki Museum, in New Plymouth. The guitars are behind a glass cover, hence the flash reflection. Photo taken by Andrea.

This is a Fender Mustang used by a lefty, just like Kurt Cobain.

Early 1965 Fender Mustang - originally Daphne Blue.

A friend is having me bring back to life his 1965 Fender Mustang. Prior to his owning it, it was stripped of all it's finish (including the neck & headstock) and routed for a humbucker in the neck spot. I'm going to bring it back to its lost glory by refinishing it in period correct Daphne Blue and nitrocellulose lacquer. We're going for a "closet classic" look so I won't be fixing each little ding and dent - they're authentic from playing.

Here's the body after the neck spot has been rebuilt.
