I'm getting all gishy inside.
On January 2, with little fanfare, the Smashing Pumpkins dropped a brand spanking new EP entitled American Gothic. A brief announcement from smashingpumpkins.com on December 19 revealed the resurrected alt-rock band’s intention to release material written between their recent tours.“We have always regretted not recording more in between tours because [our] albums have never caught the full story of the group… it’s sort of Zeitgeist+,” says Corgan.
Four new acoustic songs were recorded over the holiday break at Pass Studio in Los Angeles, CA, produced by head Pumpkin Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, with assistance on one track by Roy Thomas Baker.
Release details:
Today, January 2, Billy the kid and his ragtag crew released American Gothic, a four-song EP, which is available in the U.S. exclusively through iTunes. You can purchase the EP all by its lonesome or as a bribebonus for picking up a copy of Zeitgeist for your iThing. Outside the U.S., the disc will emerge in physical form sometime later this month.

Hmm...the lack of fanfare makes me wonder...
Silent but deadly, or silent and crappy?
I'm sort of anti-current Pumpkins (minus D'Arcy and Iha, plus Chamberlain), so my bias is obvious, but one wonders if the Radiohead release the day before was so overpowering that Corgan got pouty.

I agree the new stuff is underwhelming. I stopped paying attention after that machina album, but I was a rabid fan in high school. I think "Today" was our grad song.

After their three-hour concert, my tired hands snapped one photo through my windshield.

This was taken at the Zeitgeist Record Release Show in D.C. @ the 9:30 Club. I caught him in motion as he was rockin' out all drenched in pink and purple lighting.
