Internationally renowned Dancehall star and actor Spragga Benz is in mourning after receiving news on tour in the UK that his sixteen year old son has been killed by police gun fire in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica.
The youngster namely Carlton Grant Jnr. a recent graduate of the prestigious Camperdown College was gunned downed by police last Saturday, in downtown Kingston moments after collecting a few PS2 game cartridges from a friend.
It is alleged that the youth was riding a bicycle alongside a family member when they were pounced upon by a patrol of police. Carlton Junior and his friend fled and the police opened fire at the youths.
A few moments later Carlton was found suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and one to the waist which shattered the game cartridges which had been placed in his waistband.
He then identified himself as the son of the popular DJ before being issued two final shots, by a member of the police contingency, execution style.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
Conflicting reports from the local police communications bureau, the CCN stated that Carlton Junior had been found with a gun, but confirmed reports from downtown Kingston stated that the aspiring writer was simply strapped with game cartridges and had only detoured to a local dance in the area before being pounced upon by police.
His death has brought daily protest at the gates of the Central Police Station and has been met by police officials with bodily abuse and unjustified incarceration of a few peaceful protestors.
Sources close to the DJ who is currently on tour in the UK and Europe, stated that the news has devastated the artist, who is already making preparation to jet to Jamaica on the next available flight.
The Dancehall Duo Twins of Twins who experienced a similar situation with local police last year, have extended their support and condolences to Spragga Benz who is slated to return to the island this weekend.
Spragga Benz is best known worldwide for his signature addition to the Kevin Lyttle international hit “Turn me On” and his supporting role in the critically acclaimed urban flick “Shottas”.
